There are many occurrences around the world as well as here in the United States. Are we studying the causes of these so we can get in front of these situations and practice avoidance? Some are man made and others are an accident of nature. Does the source make any difference in the severity or outcome?

Five Horse Race: The Election of 1824 (On Campus and Zoom)–
Five Horse Race: The Election of 1824 (On Campus and Zoom)
ICL Room 624 and on ZoomCurrent politics keeping you on your toes? The presidential election that took place exactly 200 years ago was also a wild one, with five candidates, a host of unforeseen and volatile issues, and a disputed outcome. After the winner was declared by the House of Representatives, one of the candidates cried foul, saying that a “corrupt bargain” had deprived him of the presidency (or as we might say, that the election was “stolen”). This talk not only charts the story of this messy election, but also focuses on the political changes roiling underneath. It will give you a framework for understanding the political context of the generation before the Civil War.

How to Identify Misinformation (On Campus and Zoom)
ICL Room 624 and on ZoomEvery election cycle provides us with error, exaggeration and outright lies. However, AI has enabled a wide variety of additional and convincing ways to depreciate the opposing candidates and distort the issues. We will explore some simple ways to find the truth amid the morass of deceptive efforts. Though I have done a class like this before previous elections, this is a revised version. I will also provide a summary email attachment with website links to anyone who signs up.
