Caryn Amster

My early working life was spent in medical research helping diabetic babies survive, doing bacteriological research for Armor Dial and creating a testing method for antibiotic treatment of pathogens.

After the birth of my two children, my career went in varying directions including public relations advertising, shopping center management, starting an antique search service, writing a syndicated column on antiques, and starting my own marketing agency.

In 2004, I wrote a true family, true crime book retelling the history of my family on the south side of Chicago.  After the book was published, I began writing a monthly newsletter now going to over 3,000 people, mostly from the old neighborhood.

My husband Bill and I have been members of ICL for about 15 years and have attended and led many study groups.  Our participation in the bridge study group has enriched our lives and introduced us to new and lasting friends.  Even during the pandemic, we manage to play bridge on-line several times a week.  I love football, and my five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
