I joined ICL years ago for the classes, and those are wonderful, but the people really make the organization. What a delight to find such an interesting and accomplished group of individuals.
In addition to the classes I take, I also have an opportunity to teach. I’m a clinical psychologist, so I have taught some classes related to mental health, but ICL provides the opportunity for me to explore so many other interests and then share what I find with others in the group. The entire experience has so enhanced retirement.
Although most of my career was in private practice, I spent some earlier years in high schools teaching math and social studies followed by other positions in both private and public schools. These wonderful experiences with students and their parents led to a book that was published by McGraw-Hill – Living With Your Teenager. Ballantine published the paperback and foreign publishers handled the Spanish and Finnish versions. All are out of print now, but my love for books made this minor encounter with publishing a fun experience.
My husband and I have three children and two wonderful granddaughters who have so enriched our lives. Ralph and I were married 56 years, so his death in 2019 has required quite an adjustment – a life event that is certainly familiar to many in our age group.
