Tom Gavigan
Retirement in 2009 afforded me the opportunity to pursue a lifelong interest in American History in general, and the Civil War in particular.
Since then, I’ve led numerous study groups on American History (along with other topics) at ICLRU.
After service as an officer in the U.S. Army, I decided upon a career change and spent many years in corporate finance and accounting with a major international manufacturer of off-highway construction equipment.
After attending DePaul University and Carthage College for undergraduate school (Business Administration and Accounting), I continued my education with the MBA program at Loyola University. I am also a long time member, and past president, of the Northern Illinois Civil War Round Table.
ICLRU offers so many great opportunities for its members to explore diverse areas of interest, many of which they may not have had time to explore prior to retirement. Probably, just as important, is the social aspect of ICLRU. It is an excellent place to meet friends with similar interests and to get together with a warm, friendly and interesting group of people.
