What they say about us

As a newly retired teacher, I found I needed to continue to learn, so finding ICL was a lifesaver. I have been taking and leading classes since 2002. Enlightening, engaging, and fun!

The highlight of the Virtual Classes for me is seeing familiar faces I’ve been missing. I recommend the classes to members and encourage those who participate to spread the word!

I am a retired math teacher. I’ve taught all levels of math from first grade to college. However, I have always been an avid reader and lately also an avid bridge player.

I enjoy ICL because I can share my interests with the other members in my “age group”! Through my membership, I have continued to learn and expand my knowledge in many new and interesting areas.

I grew up in Chicago and went to college at Northeastern. I married Stephen and we had 3 wonderful children and two grandchildren. I have been a teacher, a CPA, and a fiber artist.

I have been part of ICLRU for the last ten years. In this time, I have had the pleasure of teaching a number of classes — some with my husband, Steve — and some with other friends I have made at ICLRU.

I am a retired Senior Vice President from Northern Trust. I held numerous positions during my 15 year tenure from client servicing to project management. Currently I am the President of my HOA, a former co-director of an older adult social group and a volunteer assisting a blind woman. My interests are reading and exercising, especially walking.

I have been a lifelong learner so ICL is the perfect place for me in retirement. Julia Cameron’s Artist Way tools (Morning Pages and Artist Dates) have been an important part of my life for 20+ years.

Nancy Mieszala

I grew up on the north side of Chicago and attended Felician College and DePaul University.

For much of my professional life I worked as a legal secretary at two large Chicago law firms in their suburban offices. I loved my job and my bosses. I had worked in accounting for a number of years, but I always went back to law.

I volunteered for Lambs’ Farm, teaching tennis to adult athletes at a Libertyville tennis club. I taught English to nonnative speakers at the Read to Learn program. I am a greeter at my Church and work in the food pantry.

Is There a Flower in You?

This Study Group was presented by Judy Krakowiak and Mariann Fitzgerald.

It was fun doing this class, chatting with the other women and seeing everyone’s beautiful art work. Judy is great; very patient and very funny. She makes it look easy. Just follow her instructions and you will have beautiful gift bags to share or maybe not share.
